About the Band
Ours To Destroy's anarchist folk abstract is music as a unique juxtaposition of introspective folk with more aggressive experimental rock and melodic pop.

Steve Dodd |
Dodd is the owner and brains behind The Sound Mind Studio whose services include song writing, live and session performance, engineering, mixing, and mastering. Dodd has an uncanny ability to listen to a 'song sketch' and hear the instrumentation, tones, and harmonies that should be there to capture the mood effectively. Did I also mention, the man knows how to shred? |
Eric Ewin |
Eric has played guitar in various permutations of music projects over the years from classic rock, pop, country rock, folk, jazz, and Irish music. He played guitar and provided vocals to Calgary's Rhuban Phero in the 90's who opened for Moist, Junkhouse, Rhymes with Orange, and Spirit of the West. In Ours to Destroy he's leaving all that behind and, um, playing bass...to provide some consistency, he is still providing tasty harmonies. |
Roland Griffith |
Roland has been playing drums for some twenty odd years. He's been involved in several bands in the Calgary region, including Ground and has played with Jenny Allen, Colleen Cole, and numerous other bands both live and on studio recordings. Oddly, he smells vaguely of bacon. |
David Morley |
Damo sings lead vocal, plays rhythm guitar & keys, and writes the lyrics. Prior to Ours To Destroy, Damo was in slacker punk band Dungor, folk rock band Mr. Henry's Lawndart Federation, and the pop rock band Hypoxia Beach. The latter band had two full length CDs to their credit. |
About the Music
Despite treading on lyrically heavy topics, Ours To Destroy manage to present it with lighter tones - that indefinable quirk - reminiscent of bands like Ween, Guided by Voices, or The Eels while their experimentation in sounds is a clear tip of the hat to early sonic experimenters the Pink Floyd.
The CD was professionally manufactured by Indiepool.ca and includess a 16 page staple booklet with original artwork by Natalie Marsh and Colin Whitney. The songs are bridged by sound montages captured during several guerilla recording sessions on the streets and in the malls of Calgary during 2005. You can hear and download the audio from these sessions for free at Audio Affair.
If you contact the band expect a reply and, even better, a link to downloadable B side tracks and even tracks from the album.
Influences
Unlike most bands, they wear their influences on their sleeve with the main ones being Modest Mouse, Wilco, Ween, The Eels, the Flaming Lips, and Mark Lanegan.
Credits
Other people involved in this project:
1) The very talented Steven Marsh designed this website. We are very grateful to him for doing so. Check out his humorous blog.
2) The even more talented Ms. Natalie Marsh (haha just kidding Steve) provided wicked artwork to the CD and this website.
3) Mr. Colin Whitney provided the amazing album cover art.
4) The bizarre videography of Gordon McDowell will be used in upcoming video releases. Can you believe he actually talked me into lip syncing to songs at 1/2 speed on the Calgary C Train?
