Band Lists
By band lists we mean websites that allow you to post your band name and description. These websites offer many ways for users of their sites to find new music - alphabetical listings, sequential listings, sounds like searches, geographical searches, genre searches, etc. They are a great and easy (and free!) way to get visitors to your site as well as increasing your page rank by increasing links into your website.
1) IndieMusic.com
I listed this one first as it has sent us the greatest number of referrals. This is because it is a highly trafficked site (good!) and also because I think our music description intrigues browsers of that
site. In once sentence we describe our music and in the second we tell them what bands they already know that we sound like.
2) FreeMusicDirectory.com
Link to them, they'll link to you. Easy.
3) WeSoundLike.com
Register your band and description and define up to five bands that you 'sound like.' Users then find new music by searching for bands based on music that they already know. As an aside, before registering
with websites you should put a great deal of thought into who you sound like as many websites request this information. To make it easier, just select five of your greatest influences. We chose
the Flaming Lips, Wilco, Eels, Ween, and Modest Mouse. While I wouldnt say we sound like any of them they all were great influences to us AND if you consider the sound of all five of these bands together
you'd probably get a very good idea as to what we are about.
